“Gas Tax Relief”: More Proof that Hillary Sucks
May 1, 2008
Hillary has taken a stand . . . with John McCain . . . to cut the 18 cent gas tax for the summer. If that sounds stupid to you, you must be an elitist. Like fellow elitist Greg Manikew, the former chairman of Bush’s economic counsel who figured out that, given the economic problems associated with increased driving, taxes on gas “should be higher, not lower,” you are out of touch with working class folks like Hillary. And if you agree with the guy from the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, who projects that money saved by the tax cut–the equivalent to a half a tank of gas per car over the summer–would be erased by the resulting increase to the price of gas why, you might even be French!
The worst part of the McClinton idea stems from the fact that the gas tax pays for maintaining roads and bridges, and it employs a lot of people by doing so. If the plan to makeup for the revenue lost from the tax cut by raising taxes on big oil fails (and it seems unlikely that such a bill would make it through Congress and beat a veto) then the lost road revenue would mean a loss of jobs. So here we have Hillary Clinton, champion of the working class, taking on the elitists so that she can . . . take jobs away from the working class?
If you accept that the gas tax cut is a really bad idea, then you have to ask yourself why is Hillary not only pursuing this policy, but actually promoting it (she is slated to make a working class press appearance at gas pump to draw attention to the plan). Having targeted what she must view as the stupid bloc of the democratic party, she is sacrificing principle in order to pander to them. That’s what she does. With race, with “elitism,” and now with gas. It comes right from page one of the republican playbook.
Ironically, what Hillary is doing–underestimating the intelligence of the working class and assuming that she can bribe them like children–is the true definition of elitism. And it just may backfire: working class democrats are a lot smarter than working class republicans.

I think she did make her working class appearance at a gas pump and was unable to navigate the complex, gas dispensing machinery. I have come to truly hate her.
